Over the past two decades, international flows of capital and trade have grown tremendously in parallel with the growing influence of international organizations on the behaviour of firms. The International Economics & Business track offers courses on international trade and investment, globalization, financial systems, international organizations and the behaviour of firms with respect to the international environment. The programme consists of three groups of courses: a course on empirical methods, courses investigating developments with respect to international financial flows, international trade and international organizations, and finally courses on the reaction of firms to these developments. These and other issues are treated by considering state-of-the-art developments in international economics and business. In this way the treatment goes beyond just economics, as it contains elements from economics, business studies, political science and sociology.

 

Learning outcomes and teaching activities
The track International Economics & Business adds to your already existing body of knowledge, skills and insights regarding international economics & Business. In addition, the track contributes to your further academic development.

Having attained the masters diploma in International Economics & Business, you will be knowledgeable about recent developments in the field. In particular, you will be an up-and-coming professional that is able to:

  • read, understand and reflect on the international professional and academic literature on international economics & business
  • report independently on various issues in international economics & business, including state of the art empirical and theoretical studies
  • use and apply statistical tools and methods that are relevant to international economics & business
  • conduct independent research within a preset time limit
  • present and defend in a clear and consistent way, both orally and in written form
  • maintain a critical attitude towards your own work and that of others, now and in future. [


Societal relevance & job opportunities
Employers are increasingly looking for economists who can tackle a wide variety of economic problems in a professional manner. Economists with international backgrounds are even more welcome. Our graduates work in a variety of industries. As a graduate in International Economics & Business  you will be working as a professional for large and medium sized international companies, consultancy firms, government and not-for-profit organisations. In particular multinational enterprises and consultancy firms that advise on international mergers and acquisitions are relevant employers for our graduates in international economics & business.
