FRANK MOHR INSTITUTE
The Frank Mohr Institute at the Minerva Art Academy offers two international Masters of Fine Arts: MFA Painting and MFA Media, Art, Design & Technology (MADtech), each consisting of a two-year curriculum.
Both programmes have their own distinct focus, either in the field of painting or in the technologically mediated relationship with society. Their common ground is that they reinforce your artistic profession in a rapidly changing society. In this technologically charged world you will leave your own mark; reflecting on your role as an artist, always asking critical questions and investigating a world in transition.
At Studielink.nl the new programme MFA MADtech can still be found under the former programme title MFA Interactive Media and Environments (MFA IME).
So when you sign up for MFA IME at Studielink.nl, this means you apply for the new master course MFA Media, Art, Design & Technology (MFA MADtech).
The programmes are aimed at a practical as well as a theoretical development and broadening of the own position as a student within the field of study.
Supervised and encouraged by expert and authoritative core lecturers, semester lecturers and guest lecturers, students work independently and formulate their own goals and ambitions.
The FMI Masters are named after Mr A. Frank Mohr (1931-1998), cultural advisor to the city and province of Groningen and chairman of the advisory boards of the School of Fine Arts, Design & Pop Culture MINERVA and the Prince Claus Conservatoire. He was a fervent advocate of independence and innovation in art education in the North Netherlands.
Master of Fine Arts - Media, Art, Design & Technology (MADtech)
Artists doing strange things with technology. This sums up our MADtech Programme. To imagine, interpret and change human interaction with a transforming world you will use and artistically explore different technologies. You will do so with a tinker mentality: play and experimentation are important aspects in your development and will carry a special emphasis on the research you do. This mentality, combined with a critical reflective attitude and conceptual skills, will lead to unexpected perspectives, resulting in multimedia artistic work.
Master of Fine Arts - Painting
The Master of Fine Arts Painting educates visual artists who create individual work and perform autonomous research with a view to gaining insight into new prospects for painting in a digital era on the basis of a reflective and critical attitude.
The two international Masters of Fine Arts: Painting and MADtech (Media, Art, Design & Technology) are provided by FMI Masters in conjunction with the Centre of Applied Research and Innovation Art & Society and Groningen University (RUG).
The FMI Masters are part of a cooperative programme involving:
We also work with a variety of educational institutes, cultural bodies and festival and event organisers, in the Netherlands and abroad, on activities such as exhibitions, presentations, shows, projects and workshops. As part of the programme there is a study trip to New York or another destination, which helps students to broaden their knowledge, experience and vision.
At MFA MADtech we are constantly searching for the dialogue between different viewpoints from the past, present and future: between art and science, laboratory and applied research, stable and unstable media, old and new technology, local and global forms of society. We do so collectively, sharing our views and ideas, working in groups and learning from each other. At the same time, you will follow your own path, improving your knowledge and skills, learning to reflect critically on your own position, role and work as well as on the world around you.
